Country Village recently lost a long time resident and hard working former board president and member. Randolph “Randy” Browne, former president of the Board of Directors of the Country Village Homeowners Association, passed away on May 25, 2013.
Randy moved into Country Village first as a renter on Vic Court and subsequently became a homeowner on Suzanne Lane. Randy recognized that living conditions were deteriorating in our community and shortly after becoming a homeowner applied and was elected to the Board of Directors. At that time, the homeowners association consisted of only Country Village resident homeowners who oversaw all of the functions of managing the community, securing contracts, and collecting association dues. As a result of the frustration that the board members were experiencing, Randy stepped up and was elected to the position of Board President in short order, and brought new vigor to the position. Randy made some difficult decisions necessary to turn Country Village around. Randy recognized that homeowners in residence were ill suited to perform the duties required by our By-Laws and that some sort of buffer was needed. Thus the decision was made in 1998 to bring in a professional management company to assist the board collect and allocate funds, perform the necessary functions of the community, and maintain proper standards to protect and increase home values thru rule adherence and maintenance of homes. Randy was able to devote the time required to get this drastic change in community management up and running. This was not a popular decision since it resulted in a doubling of the association fees and a somewhat aggressive approach to rule adherence and collection of dues. However, time proved that it was the right decision. It took some effort to work out the bugs and make the necessary adjustments, but in the long run had a much needed positive effect on the community then and continues to this day.
Randy remained president until approximately 2004 and then continued on the board, as a board member, until he had to resign for health reasons in 2009. Randy was a tireless worker and dedicated significant time to the Association and community. When Country Village was going through “difficult times” with many quality of life issues, Randy used to patrol the streets keeping an eye out for any mischief. He was also instrumental in developing and clarifying various rules and policies that have made Country Village a desirable place to live.
Randy leaves behind his loving wife Barbara, two sons, Randy Jr. and Eric, and three brothers. We all owe Randy a debt of gratitude for all of the hard work he put in to make Country Village great!
